... Don’t Let Our Buildings Collapse Sir
… We All Deserve Quality Education
A passionate appeal has gone to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State to come to the aid of students and staff of Methodist High School, Ogbe-Abeokuta, Ogun State.
This appeal was contained in a release signed by the President, Methodist High School’s Old Students Association’s, METHOSA, Comrade Isikilu Soyinka following the save our souls messages from students and their parents.
According to Soyinka, though the old students association has been and is still making efforts to assist the school, there is now a very urgent need for the state government’s intervention regarding infrastructure.
“The state of the school is quite terrible. We are going to contribute our quota in terms of provision of liquid soap, sanitizer and buying more additional tap-fitted buckets to augment what government has provided. But more importantly, the school requires urgent government’s attention in the area of replacing all dilapidated buildings.”
Speaking to our Correspondent, the concerned parents expressed their fear regarding the safety of their children and staff too staying in such buildings.
“It will be an understatement to say that the state of the school is very despicable and hopeless as many letters have been written to the state government in the last five years without any respite.”
The concerned parents however expressed optimism that the current administration of listening Governor Abiodun will come to their rescue by directing the state’s ministries of education and works to do the needful by swinging into action and ensuring that all necessary palliatives are put in place to save the students and staff and help their studies.
“We believe our action Governor will visit the school as a matter of urgency now and not when the buildings are collapsing on teachers and students. As a stitch in time saves nine. It’s better to spend a little time and effort to deal with a problem right now than to wait until later when it may get worse and take longer to deal with or even claim lives.”
Soyinka therefore called on action Governor Abiodun to kindly make hay while the sun shines believing that very soon, parents, students and staff of this school will thank and celebrate this administration in the media.
He Also urged members of the old students association to continue to play their part and support all government’s intervention in giving students of Ogun State the best of education in a conducive environment.
“All executives and members of METHOSA will continue to play their part in partnership with the state government to in ensure that the school regain its old glory. We remember with nostalgia how this school was in the 80s and early 90s.” Soyinka concluded.
