Youth Mobiliser/
When I marched with an army of angry youths to a police formation at Seme Border there was fear of looting and arson in the air.
But we literally laid down our arms as we found a shoulder to cry on in the Commander Border Patrol, CSP Ogechi.
Charming and disarming, Ogechi engaged the youths, appealed for calm, and the storm was over.
That was possible because Ogechi has become a Man of the People at the border area where he has been applying the Inspector General of Police’s community policing initiative. He simply reaped what he sowed.
The way he managed the crisis saved other government formations, including the Customs warehouse and offices, the Immigration and other agencies.
Ogechi was never known to put tribalism or religious sentiments in his work. True to his calling to serve our nation without any influence but track record, not a Yoruba or Hausa man but he speaks all languages in a way you will be mesmerized and full of laughter whenever he speaks. He will tell you my guy why are you disobeying the law?
People say police is not your friend but in this man, I disagree with that notion.
In him, I immensely believe that police is a friend. Yesterday, the youths were rampaging, looking for Police Stations to burn down. When they trooped to the Seme Border with gallons of fuel and weapons, most of his men were gripped with fear and almost ready to kill everyone in sight; but behold, when this handsome gentleman and true officer, with his swagger walking staff stepped forward,…. the chants of the angry youths changed immediately from “We no go gree, oh we no go gree” to “Commander Ogechi you be our friend, Commander Ogechi You be our man, Commander Seme Border You be our friend”.
He addressed them properly, lectured them all and changed their perspective towards embracing calmness and peace. Commander Ogechi can give impromptu lecture to his men on almost all aspects of life. He is simply an epitome of beauty and intelligence. He is discipline personified. And this has earned him the name Commander FBI. He is the master of all; a comedian too.
Tears nearly fell from my eyes; tears of Joy and appreciation of a good man still serving and existing in the Police.
The police man I see in Commander Ogechi is the kind of reformed police the society is actually looking for.
This is an officer who does not only believe hardwork pays but he is an advocate of unity in diversity, his discipline, intelligence, hardwork bring about swiftness in decision taking and that has made a mark in controlling the situation in his AOR as we enjoy much peace and good story otherwise.
The officer is a Biker, Social Scientist, writer; and comedian all rolled into one.
He also organizes sports events for the youths at Seme Border field where he used to engage them in Table Tenis and football playing competition after work. He bikes alone all without gun, knife or tear gas because he does his work diligently without corruption. So no fear of the mob.
He exhibits high sense of unity by attending occasions irrespective of any religion that organises it and invites him, ranging from Church and Muslim events around his Area of Responsibility.
Commander UM. Ogechi is a symbol of humour and humility and this is why we celebrate him a lot. You are simply a good officer and a gentleman. Keep up the good work.
No wonder many cherish you so much because you are simply a good officer and a gentleman.
