The police in Edo State have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of the staff of Auchi Polytechnic who was allegedly abducted by gunmen.
Samuel Okolie, who was reportedly abducted by gunmen on October 9, was found dead on his farmland at Aviele community, near Auchi in the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo five days after.
Okolie’s death occurred barely two weeks after another staff of the polytechnic, Dr S. Okhikhena, described as his close friend was similarly murdered.
Chief Detective learnt that Okolie was abducted on his way to his farm after the close of work, as he set out to pick people working for him.
His mutilated body was dumped close to a truck he was driving when he was abducted by the gunmen.
But the Commissioner of Police in Edo, Mr Danmallam Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said that Okolie was not abducted.
Mohammed said the death was “probably a case of suicide as parts of the deceased’s body were bathed with acid.
He added, “It is probably a case of suicide because nothing was taken away from him and also from his vehicle.
“You know the rate of suicide is very high and his own cannot be an exception.”
The commissioner said that his men would conduct further investigation to ascertain what led to Okolie’s death.
